Home Remedies for Swimmer’s Ear

Swimmer’s Ear is medically known as acute otitis externa and it is type of bacterial infection which damages the outer ear canal skin. This condition is painful which results in irritation, inflammation and infection. Basic cause of this problem is entrapped water which leads to bacterial growth and spreading of bacterial infections. Mostly this problem is seen in swimmers due to their long time contact with water. Therefore this condition is named as Swimmer’s Ear.

Swimmers sometimes suffer ear pain after swimming which is sign of ear infection. Sometimes while taking bath also water gets into our ear. There are some home remedies for water in ear by which water can be removed from ear. Here are some home remedies for swimmer’s Ear with the help of these remedies you can treat swimmer’s ear at home.

Swimming and ear infection is common problem among swimmer. Due to presence of water swimmers ear bacteria grow causing more problem here are some home remedies for swimmer’s Ear.

  • Avoid Water Contact

Avoid swimming or taking bath to reduce water exposure because contact with water will worsen the condition and it would be difficult to treat it. First remedy is to avoid ear contact with water. Also do not try to remove the visible drainage or debris from your ear because in doing so you may cause ear injury which can worsen the problem.

  • Heating Pad

Heating pad is very helpful in relieving pain you can use heating pad for ear as well to treat ear pain due to acute otitis externa. If heating pad is too hot to be applied directly on ear for pain relief than you can place folded towel between ear and heating pad. This will prevent ear burning.

  • Diluted Vinegar Solution

Use of diluted vinegar solution is another effective remedy for swimmer’s Ear because vinegar helps to maintain the pH which would prevent bacterial growth. Mix vinegar with portions of water and insert it into your ear for five minutes in lying position.  Now place your head with infected ear towards downward to drain out the liquid. This method is an effective way.

You can also use pain killers in case of severe pain and inflammation.

These are some common home remedies for swimmer’s Ear. If the condition is severe and you cannot treat it by yourself than you should visit physician to treat this condition.
